The Lit Door

He is the door held open. Every surface is the dark outside, and everything he shows you stands in the light coming through.

What he asked for

  1. 25:23

"The background could actually be an actual door, or, like."

The door is photographed as well as drawn. On pinned post 1 and in the landing page hero he stands in a real doorway.

  2. 31:08

"originally, I was, I liked them B. I was, like, B looks cool. I like the dark colors"

B's warm dark is the ground, taken down from L* 28 to 9.9 so his photographs no longer sink into it.

  3. 31:08 to 31:28

"the doors are really good elements to add. As well. So I think maybe somewhere between the 2. Like, if we could merge the 2 together"

The merge: B's dark is the outside, C's door is the way in.

  4. 31:33 to 31:44

"on the pictures, pop more on the lighter colors? Like, the pictures sort of blend in with the dark on B?"

His photograph always stands in the light, inside the door or in a light mat, never on the dark. A script measures the light around every picture of him and fails anything under L* 80.

  5. 31:54

    "Yeah, I like the checkboxes."

B's box, kept whole. Empty for every stranger, ticked in violet only where something happened: a quest done, a week of his own.

  6. 32:00

"I like the doors as well. It's, like, the guy dri, like, through the door."

Every place in the photographs is lit by a door, and where he appears he stands in the opening.

  7. 34:25

"I like both. I like the yellow and I like the violet"

Both stay, with one job each: yellow is the door and the button, violet is the ticked box.

Pictures pop

Direction B as sketched: his phone photograph cropped into a narrow band across a dark olive board, darker than the photograph itself
Before: his photograph in a band on B's dark.
Now: he stands in the light of the door.

His condition, 14 September 31:33: 'on the pictures, pop more on the lighter colors? Like, the pictures sort of blend in with the dark on B?' B cropped his phone frames into letterbox bands on a dark olive sheet at L* 28, which is about the mean of a phone photograph, so they sank.

The door and the box

C's jamb and sill, now standing on B's dark and opening onto the light. Drawn as a formula so two builders draw it the same.
Where a real door photograph is the ground, the photograph is the device and nothing is drawn over the light in it. Type sits in the dark part of the frame
B's state box, kept whole because he liked it.
The mark. Stands beside the handle in the foot band, drawn, never an image.

The photographs

Places and objects from his world, each lit by a door: the door ajar with its blade of light, the open doorway, the gym door before sunrise, the earbuds left on a bench, the dumbbell corner, the mirror, the squat rack.

A cutout keeps his whole head and the line of his shoulders. Never cut at the neck, never cut through the glasses. Upscaling is Magnific Precision at zero creativity, compared face to face with the original before use. Background removal is on his own frames only.

Where it departs from B and C

  1. From B

    The ground drops from B's n5 #484236 (L* 28) to n6 #1E1B16 (L* 9.9).

His condition. At L* 28 the ground sat at the mean of his phone photographs, which is why they blended in. The darker ground also meets the shadows of the door photographs (#171A12 to #28251C) without a seam.

  2. From B

Photographs leave B's letterbox band on the dark sheet and stand in the light: a cutout on the lit field or a full frame inside a light mat.

His condition, 31:33 to 31:44. The band was the treatment he saw sink.

  3. From B

Space Grotesk is dropped. Headlines are Archivo, set wide.

The merge needs one headline voice, and C's wide Archivo is the one that holds at the 300px an Instagram tile is served at. The same problem exists on his current feed: Caspar, about tiles like 'Top 10 gyms' on the same call, 'there are a lot of the text that you have on screen that I cannot even read' (33:34).

  4. From B

Violet stops being the only colour. It keeps one job, the mark in the box, and yellow takes the door and the button.

He likes both (34:25). Two colours with one job each keep Andreas's 'a little bit less of color' (34:30) while giving him both.

  5. From B

The marker column is no longer on every board. The box appears where something is counted: the quest, the ladder, the baseline, the highlight.

A column on every cover is the form taking over the man. On a cover the door carries recognition.

  6. From C

The cold slate ramp is replaced by B's warm ramp.

He picked B's dark (31:08), and the warm dark is the colour of the door photographs he asked for (25:23).

  7. From C

The light field is warm bone rather than C's pale blue #E2ECFE.

The lit room in a photograph is warm. A blue room beside a warm photograph reads as two identities, which is the clash Andreas named at 32:18.

  8. From C

Inter is dropped. Archivo sets the text at normal width.

One family for display and text. Two families total, with B's mono as the second, keeps the contract's two family rule.

  9. From C

The door is photographed as well as drawn.

'The background could actually be an actual door' (25:23).

  10. From C

The seam no longer sits on every board at a fixed 33 percent. The opening is 46 percent by default and narrows by level only on quest surfaces.

At 33 percent the lit room was too narrow to hold his photograph at a size that pops. The level rule survives where levels exist.

  11. From C

Yellow may be one word of a headline on the dark and the button fill.

C kept amber off type entirely. Measured at 8.99 on the ground, it is legal, and one yellow word is how a headline points at the way in.
